Up is an armchair that has marked the history of design with its strong iconic allure.
First designed by the great master Gaetano Pesce in 1969, the armchair has since become a timeless symbol of the design and furniture of the '60s and '70s due to its unmistakable formal features.
The chair has anatomical shapes with precise anthropomorphic references. Designed as a metaphor for a large and comfortable womb, it calls to mind the ancient statues of fertility goddesses. As an almost deliberately contrast with this sense of comfort, the armchair is tied to a spherical footstool.
Today, Up is available in several variants: Serie Up 2000, Up50 series (a special edition designed to celebrate the product's 50th anniversary) and Up Junior, which recreates the traditional series' iconic design in a reduced child-friendly size.
